Bethiael Berhane Araya is a first-generation, Eritrean&Ethiopian-American filmmaker based in Austin, TX whose work explores the humanity of women of the African Diaspora. 

Araya created and directed the six-part episodic short film series, We Are, which premiered on Issa Rae's YouTube channel, in Oct. 2017, where it is currently streaming in its entirety. 

Since its online premiere, select We Are short films have been screened for eager audiences across the U.S. and internationally. Screenings include events in Austin, Brooklyn, Charleston, Peterborough, and the SXSW Official Austin Film Society Shortcase in 2018. 

In March 2017, Araya's short film BETA also premiered on Issa Rae's YouTube as a part of the #ShortFilmSundays series.

Upon moving to Austin, she interned for Academy Award nominated director, Richard Linklater, at Detour Filmproduction garnering an in depth look at the post-production process for a studio feature film.  Araya's short film Mostly Time premiered at Babesfest during SXSW in 2016, at the Salvage Vanguard Theater.
